A STUDY ON EFFECTS OF ZINC AND CADMIUM ON ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE (ALP) ACTIVITIES OF BLOOD AND ACCUMULATION OF ZINC AND CADMIUM N LIVER AND KIDNEY IN RAT

Abstract
A Study on effects of Zn and Cd in rats was conducted to determine interaction mechanism of Zn -and Cd. The rats were divided into four groups; Zn group, Zn and Cd group, Cd group and control group. Zn group rats and Zn and Cd group rats were subdivided into four groups by doses of Zn (250mg/ l, 500 .mg/l, l, 000mg/l and 2, 000mg/ 1).
Since the rats were fed with the chemicals, the rats were weighed every five days for 60 days, and ¢¥the subjects were slaughtered for measuring ALP activities and concentration of the chemicals in blood, livers and kidneys.
The results summarized are as follows;
1. The average body weight of control group was the highest, and that of Zn and Cd group was the lowest.
2. ALP activities of Zn group increased in the rats fed with higher doses of Zn, and the ALP activities decreased in Zn group, and Zn and Cd group fed with the highest concentration of Zn (2,000 mg/l)
3. Hb value decreased in both of Zn group, and Zn and Cd group fed with the concentration of Zn more than 1, 000mg/l and Hb value of Zn group was lower than that of Zn¢¥and Cd group.
4. The amount of Zn accumulated in liver and kidney was higher in the group fed with Zn more than 1, 000mg/l to compare with_ that of the control group. The amount of Zn accumulated in liver was higher in Zn group than in Zn and Cd group, meanwhile that of Zn in kidney was higher in Zn and Cd group than in Zn group.
5. The amount of Cd accumulated in liver and kidney of Zn group decreased gradually in contrast to high concentration of Zn fed to rats.
